Upcycling Yourself A Badass Cutting Board

The story goes like this, “A woman walks into a thrift store and buys herself an old cutting board for $1.00”  Then she upcycles that cutting board into looking something like this —

…which is pretty badass when you think about it because originally the cutting board looked like this —

So, how’d she do it?  I know you want to know so you can upcyle a cutting board and sell it on Etsy.  Well, we’re here to help.

First, a good pass with a sander —

Almost done!  This craftsy lady got the great -brand new- cutting board look from rubbing mineral oil and beeswax, mineral oil into the board.  That is the key.  To “seal” a cutting board, you need to rub an edible oil into the wood.  Oh and this tip is good for that store bought cutting board you have too.  Just a few wipes with mineral oil and you’re good to go.

Wah-la!
